Feeding Worry
🌟Weekly Inspiration🌟
I’ve been struck lately by how much time is spent by people “preparing to live” their lives vs. just “living” their lives in the present moment. We are often striving and future-looking. Anxiety resides in future-oriented thinking. Children are increasingly concerned with the future and plagued with worries that used to be saved for adults. We could spend our entire lives “preparing to live” vs just “living” and enjoying our time more. There is always more to strive for, isn’t there? Much important developmental work is done for youth when they “live”: take risks, explore, create, have fun, laugh, and chill. Goals and dreams are wonderful; I’m just suggesting that it might feel nice to de-emphasize “preparing” all the time. Lots of planning, prep, and stress can get in the way of the joy of being in the here-and-now.
Ask Yourself
How could I stay more present in the moment?
Why might I resist the here-and-now? Is fear creeping in?
What am I really prepping for?
Am I missing the forest for the trees?
How can I feel more grounded?
How does my smartphone influence my stress level and the worries that creep in?
This isn’t easy, but it’s worth your consideration. Be well!
